December 2014

Conference News magazine carried an article by Philip Cooke, entitled ‘The Anatomy of a Press Release’, which explained how to write an effective press release and how to increase the chances of it being published!

More excellent coverage for Dutch Coach Operator, Oad Bus, and its support for the ‘Van Gogh 2015’ exhibition in Holland and its EU-wide special interest itineraries.

Finally, Philip completed the PRCA’s year-long OnLine Certificate training programme.

November 2014

The 2014 World Travel Market was a great success. We were contracted by Swiss Government Enterprise to support a group of eight Peruvian Tour Operators and managed to obtain over 270 pre-arranged appointments for these eco-tourism specialists. We also helped ProEcuador look after Ecuador’s Tren Crucero stand during a very busy four days.

We were also delighted to receive this surprise testimonial from the Director of the Monaco Convention Bureau, concerning their recent winning of the ICCA Best Marketing Campaign Award:

I consider this is the best article published among all the others, in the way it is written and for its content.

Gloucester Rugby Club commissioned us to produce a new on-line Conferences, Meetings and Incentives brochure for the promotion of the Kingsholm Conference Centre, see below left.

Ecuador’s Tren Crucero has re-appointed the Destination Marketing Group as its official UK Representative and also commissioned us to undertake a research project into the needs of the UK’s train chartering market.

Meanwhile, Virgin Holidays and Ben Fogle have produced a series of amazing YouTube videos about Ecuador, including one which features Tren Crucero, see below right.

September 2014

It’s not ‘Headline News’ but our College Green offices, set within the beautiful and historic precincts of Gloucester Cathedral have just been redecorated and No. 3 looks as good as new, despite the fact that it was built in 1740!

That’s 30 years before the American War of Independence, and 50 years before Napoleon invaded Egypt!

Meanwhile, more PR success for our new Dutch clients, Oad Bud and the National Liberation Museum 1944/5.




August 2014

Following last May’s Press Visit to Gelderland in South East Holland (see article published in the West Country Life magazine), we are now the official UK representative for Oad Bus B.V, the largest coach operator and destination management company in the Netherlands, and for the National Liberation Museum 1944/5 in Groesbeek.

Philip is the National Press and PR Officer for Skal London and Skal UK and he recently secured wide coverage of this year’s Skal Summer Garden Party and its Guest Speaker, Paul Gardiner, Group Marketing Director for the Mantis Collection of luxury hotels and close friend of Bear Grylls, spoke of his work in trying to save Africa’s Rhino population from extinction.

July 2014

The first two weeks of July were spent on the road with a choir from the Dreyfoos School of the Performing Arts in Palm Beach, Florida, who sung in St Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin, and St Giles Cathedral, Edinburgh, as well as competing in the Llangollen International Eisteddfod, where they won several prizes for their superb singing. This trip was arranged by our Vermont-based client, Music Contact International.

Closer to home, Philip provided Gloucester Rugby with six pages of search engine optimised copywriting for the new Kingsholm Conference Centre website.

June 2014

This has been another big month for Tren Crucero. It was featured in the recent Luxury Edition of the National Geographic Traveller Magazine, in the Tourism Society’s magazine and Philip Cooke’s Fam Trip Report which has been picked up and used by several UK Tour Operators specialising in Latin American travel.

We also represented Tren Crucero at the highly successful Experience Latin America by LATA event in London. LATA stands for the Latin American Travel Association (www.lata.org) and both Ferrocarriles del Ecuador (The national railway company for Ecuador, which runs Tren Crucero) and The Destination Marketing Group is a member of this excellent organisation.

We also completed the re-structuring and search engine optimised copywriting for the new Kingsholm Conference Centre website that goes live in July.

May 2014

Arnhem, a Bridge Too Far and the Liberation Route Europe project

Philip joined a press / travel trade educational tour of Holland’s Gelderland Region to learn about the Battle of Arnhem (the Bridge Too Far) and the Liberation Europe Route project which marks the advance of the Allied forces through Europe at the end of WW2.

On the 17th of September 1944, the largest airborne invasion in history, named Operation Market Garden, left these shores for Holland and, potentially, a strike at the heart of Germany and the foreshortening of the end of WW2. It was a massively important and ambitious endeavour but one in which bad luck and ill judgement would end in military disaster.

Four bridges had to be taken and held for two days until the British 2nd Army arrived from the south. The first three bridges were captured by American and Canadian paratroopers, but the fourth bridge, at Arnhem, and afterwards named The Bridge Too Far, was lost to overwhelmingly superior German forces and of the 11,920 British and Polish paratroopers who landed there, 6,525 were captured, 1,485 died and only 3,910 were able to withdraw to safety.

The historic towns of Arnhem and Nijmegen, the two war museums that commemorate these events, battlefield sites and military cemeteries, as well as a range of excellent tourist and cultural attractions, made this visit to Gelderland a truly unforgettable experience.

One of the World’s Greatest Railway Journeys!

Tren Crucero


I was privileged to be in Ecuador in early February and travelling on Tren Crucero – a magnificent four-day, three night train journey through the heart of Ecuador that connects Guayaquil on the Pacific seaboard with Quito in the high Andes.
On the first day we headed east through Ecuador’s lush coastal plain where bananas, rice, potatoes, cocoa and flowers grow in great profusion. On the second day we climbed 4,000 metres via the famous Devil’s Nose and on the third and fourth days we travelled through the amazing Avenue of the Volcanoes to Quito, enjoying stunning scenery and meeting many local people en-route.

The Destination Marketing Group has represented Tren Crucero in the UK since its launch in January 2013 and will continue to do so throughout 2014.

We also sent out a very successful e-newsletter on behalf of Machete Tours, a specialist eco-tourism company offering daypack only walking tours from Cusco to Machu Picchu.
