Wanderlust magazine publishes a 7-page feature on Tren Crucero, identifying it as one of the Twenty Travel Experiences To Change Your Life’. This is then followed by CNN identifying it as one of its Eleven Places to Go in 2014, capping an amazingly successful launch year.

Gloucester Rugby Club have engaged the DMG to undertake supporter satisfaction research project in which different sectors of the match day crowds are interviewed on a one-to-one basis. Initial feedback indicates that whilst different types of ticket holders have very different needs, the Kingsholm experience is very well managed and highly valued.

Our 2014 Features Dairy was completed in December. This highly segmented list of country-by-country travel industry features planned for 2014, plus detailed editorial contacts, is our most important resource for planned travel industry media activity in the year ahead.

The DMG has been accepted as a member of the Public Relations Consultants Association (PRCA) and is currently undergoing their Communications Management Standard company audit, which is recognized as an industry-wide indicator of good practice.

World Travel Market 2013 was busier than ever with clients coming in from Latin America and Europe and it began on a high note when Ferrocarriles del Ecuador won the British Guild of Travel Writers Wider World prize for the Tren Crucero project, which we have been promoting across the UK since January.

The DMG was also contracted by Switzerland Global Enterprise (the Swiss Import Promotion Programme) to assist seven Peruvian eco-tourism companies attending World Travel Market, helping them make contact with scores of potential UK commercial partners, distributors, tour operators and retailers, etc.

Finally, we were also able to assist, our Croatian sailing and music festival  holiday client, sailing.HR, make contact with some very important UK based travel industry contacts and media.

We met with a group of tourism professionals from the town of Arnhem in Holland regarding plans for the celebration, in 2014, of the 70th Anniversary of Battle of Arnhem, made famous by the movie ‘A Bridge Too Far’ .

This was followed in November with a meeting at the World Travel Market with representatives from the Arnhem Nijmegen Region and the Liberation Route Europe project.

Conference and Meetings World articleOne of our more unusual clients, www.sailing.hr, a Croatian company which organizes sailing holidays in the Adriatic Sea for ‘twenty-somethings’ reports an excellent summer season with most of their ‘party yacht’ weeks selling out (i.e. fleets of up to 20 yachts and 200 young people having lots of fun, as illustrated!)

The Forest of Dean Greenways project comes to an end with the publication of the Final Report but we are already exploring a possible extension of the route across to Monmouthshire and similar new multi-user trails in the Stroud Valleys area.

Adventure.travel articleExcellent coverage of a new Chilean Eco-Tourism project developed by Darwins Trails (Chile) and GoTourism (USA), across a wide range of travel media, including the Adventure Travel Trade Association.

Ecuador’s national railway company, Ferrocarriles del Ecuador, have appointed The Destination Marketing Group to work with German travel marketing specialists, BZ.COMM to continue the highly successful promotion of Tren Crucero to UK tour operators and travel industry media.

The Forest of Dean Greenways project was officially launched on the 22nd August, marking the conclusion of a two year long outdoor recreation initiative, project managed by the DMG, that is already making a big impact in equestrian circles.

The June 4th launch of Tren Crucero is marked by it’s inclusion as a special itinerary in the brochures and web sites of the following UK tour operators and travel companies: Railway Expeditions, Metropolitan Touring, Imagine Latin America, Yampu Tours, Rainbow Tours, Sunvil Tours, Journey Latin America, My Destination.com, South American Railway Tours, Audley Travel and a full double page spread in the new Great Rail Journeys brochure.

Tren CruceroMore intense activity this month in support of national railway company Ferrocarriles del Ecuador and the promotion of the stunning Tren Cucero heritage train journey from Quito in the high Andes to the Pacific Coast.

The final stage of this project comprised four co-operative marketing promotions undertaken in liaison with Journey Latin America, the Latin American Travel Association, Imagine Latin America and Great Rail Journeys.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Philip also spent ten days in Ireland working for our Vermont USA client, Music Contact International, managing a choir group from San Francisco that visited and sang in Galway and Dublin, including a concert in St Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin.

Tren CruceroWe have spent almost the whole month working with German company BZ.COMM to promote the June 2013 opening of ‘Tren Crucero’ (the Cruise Train) in Ecuador.

This beautifully refurbished heritage train will link Quito in the north of Ecuador with Guayaquil in the south, staying overnight en-route in traditional towns and villages and it has been received with great interest by the UK travel industry.

On its way down from the high Andes to the Pacific Ocean, Tren Crucero has to negotiate the stunning ‘Avenue of the Volcanoes’ and the fearsome ‘Devils Nose’ and here’s what it looks like:

The Red Dot logoWe achieved some excellent press coverage for our Indian destination management company client, Verna Tours, and the launch of their new leisure division named The Red Dot after India’s traditional mark of welcome to visitors.

Our long-standing building energy client, the Automated Building Controls Group asked us to update their promotional material to include the opening of their new London office, reflecting the growth of this high-tec company which is based in nearby Tewkesbury.

Company Director, Philip Cooke, attended a parliamentary reception in the House of Lords, hosted by the Latin American Travel Association, the highlight of which was a special award to Michael Palin in recognition of his contribution to promoting an understanding of Latin America in the UK.
